Moshi is a restaurant located in Al Barsha that specializes in serving two simple dishes called the Momo and Sushi. Such dishes are reinvented and cooked in a way that fuses Japanese and Nepali cuisines.
It is tucked in a small area which can probably accommodate less than 10 people at a time. It is located behind the Mall of Emirates and right across the City Max Hotel.
The restaurant has a pretty cool and minimalist interior. The tables are black and the walls are painted orange and gray which I find cool. The vibes inside the place feel like a hipster type of Japanese restaurant. You can even opt to witness how they create you sushi live.
When we arrived at the place, we were greeted by a very hospitable and lovely staff named Adele. She looks very excited and confident that we will fall in love with the dishes that they offer.
We started everything with some Fresh Lemon and Mint leaves juice that is served in a mason jar glass. We were handed with some pens to write our names on the glass. That was some pretty unique and interactive way to start up on our gastronomic experience.
The drink was very refreshing and addicting. It had the right amount of sweetness and lemon flavor. I like it served Ice cold. :D Food was starting to flow and for our starters, we were presented with the following:
Moshi Salad - Finely chopped beetroot, carrot, cabbage topped off with some peanuts in a secret sauce.
I love the taste of this salad. The sauce had a taste of nuts that complimented very well with the veggies. A big plus to the veggies for being so fresh and crunchy.
Vegetable Noodles - 100% handmade noodles made in-house and is mixed with some vegetables and served with some special Moshi chili sauce.
Everything made in-house just taste so fresh and good. I love devouring this noodles. It was a very tasty dish. I love mixing it with some chili sauce as it enhances the flavor of the noodles.
Chicken Fried Rice - Stir-fried rice that is mixed with some chicken bites and fresh vegetables. Served with some special Moshi chili sauce.
This dish was also very good. It was a meal in itself and I just love mixing everything with their special Chili Sauce.
After the starters, they presented to us one of their main specialties which are the Momos. One thing to note about this dish is that they are giving you the option to either Steam, Fan Fry (half steam and half fry), and fry (Deep Fried) your Momos based on your preference. We were presented with their best-selling Momos which were the following:
Cheese Mushroom Momo - Mozzarella Cheese and Mushrooms.
I love the taste of mushroom and cheese in a single wrapper designed to eat at one time. I love the simplicity yet highly addicting taste of this variant. I think it is best served fried to enjoy the mozzarella cheese better. Prawn Momo - Prawns mixed with some homemade spice. Everything that goes with prawns will always be good especially when you use a fresh prawn. This one is another good and satisfying dish to try. I believe it is best served as steam/ Fan Fried. Mutton Momo - Juicy and tender minced lamb mixed with some seasoning. The mutton was indeed very juicy but we find the taste a bit weird for our liking. I prefer this as fried just to make sure that the mutton is cooked well. :D Cheesy Chicken & Capsicum - Mozarella cheese, shredded chicken, and capsicum. I like the taste of chicken and cheese combines but I like it better with some capsicum to have a peppery taste in between.
All of the Momos are served with two sauces. One is made up of Sesame Seeds and Tomato Paste and the other one is a Hot Chili Sauce
Overall, the Momos were a good dish to try in this place. It is one of the few Momos I tried within the city but this will be my favorite amongst all.
My most awaited dish to try in this place is undoubtedly the Sushi Maki Roll. We were very excited when the sushi was flowing endlessly at our table.
Each has its own story to tell and we can't wait to eat each piece. Among all, the following are some of the dishes served to us:
Cheesy Chicken Chips Oman - classic loved Oman chips with some cream cheese and chicken filling.
A level up to their previous dish called the Cheesy Chips Oman is this dish with some added chicken inside. The bland taste of the rice was a pretty good combination with the Oman chips and the cream cheese and chicken added some fulfilling and tasty texture. Falafel, Humus & Cucumber served with Tahini Sauce The Falafel and Hummus tasted pretty good and the cucumber was very crunchy. I love the Tahini Sauce that comes with it. Though I am not a big fan of Falafel, I find this dish good. This one is an Arabic-inspired sushi.
Chicken Tikka (Indian infused maki) & Chicken Katsu (Crispy chicken and avocado topped with some Katsu Sauce) Air Roll (Lettuce Wrap)
If you're not a fan /dislikes the taste of nori then this is probably the best sushi for you. Moshi replaced the use of nori to lettuce with these and the taste was remarkably amazing.
Prawn Tempura Crispy - Fried Prawn, Mayonnaise, and Avocado coated with Panko crumbs
Another shrimp dish that taste so good. The panko crumbs gave it a bit of crunch at every bite. Moshi Dynamite - Ebi Prawn, Crab stick, and avocado topped with some dynamite sauce, spring onion, and flying fish roe This is probably my favorite sushi roll. A heaven for seafood lovers. The dish tasted so good. The sauce was pretty tasty and the caviar looks amazing. I couldn't say much but be amazed at how this was. They also have some pretty cool Hand rolls and I got to try the following:
Unagi Temaki Hand Roll - Unagi, Avocado, sesame seeds, and unagi sauce.
Unagi is a Japanese word for eel. I tasted eel once in Japan and I am excited to taste it again but this time in a Hand Roll Maki. The avocado and Unagi tasted so good together plus the sauce made everything better. Salmon Spicy Hand Roll - Fresh Salmon Cut, Spring Onions, and Sesame Seeds I am a big fan of salmon and this dish is my absolute favorite Hand Roll maki. The wasabi used is very good and highly addicting. The salmon was fresh and one bite is very good and mouthwatering. Every bite taste so good. I would have this every day. :'D The wide array of sushi maki rolls is overwhelming and some the best were served to us. Everything was good and worthy to try.
After enjoying one heavy meal, We were then served with some desserts which are the following:
Nutella Maki - Nutella flavored maki roll
Simply a good dish to try. Nutella is enough to convince anyone to order this dish. Peanut Butter Bars - peanut butter and dark chocolate on a bar. A pretty healthy and delicious dish. One of my best peanut butter desserts ever. :D What a lovely presentation of desserts, I couldn't be happier to enjoy such dish without having this personalized presentation. Thank you very much for this.
Overall, Moshi is truly a hole in the wall restaurant that served amazing and drool worthy dishes at an affordable price. For those who haven't tried this place out, I highly encourage all of you to do try it. One thing to take note though is the place. It can't accommodate much but wait they offer deliveries which can be a good option or another one is their bigger branch in Oud Metha which I have yet to try.
