Katana is a robata and sushi bar type of Japanese restaurant which originated in Los Angeles. This year, they opened its doors to Dubai in the perfect location fronting the ever famous Burj Khalifa.
The restaurant has been known for pioneering the robata-style of Japanese cuisines where bamboo skewered gourmet fish, meat, and vegetables are grilled over a charcoal-induced open flame.
The interiors inside offer a unique and one of a kind space with a creative and artistic ambiance. Guest can have the option to sit outside or inside but since it's summer the outside isn't much of a choice.
We got there to try out their launch on their Summer Sunset Menu. It was rather a unique and intriguing title of the menu especially when you start dining when the sun is about to set.
The menu cost around AED 180 per person and there is a minimum of 2 persons to try this one out. Basically, the menu is divided into 4 parts: the appetizers, the entrees, the main course, and of course the desserts.
BEVERAGES:
Banana Moon - A mix of Banana and pineapple. A very refreshing drink to try.
Strawberry Pool - This drink could have been perfect if they used better strawberries. It tasted too sour for my liking.
ENTREE:
Garden Salad - Baby Mixed Greens with Soy Vinaigrette
The vegetables are so fresh and the vinaigrette is just the perfect pair for it.
Edamame - Soy Beans with Sea Salt
I love eating this Japanese beans. It's the perfect food to munch on while waiting for the mains.
Salmon Carpaccio - Feta and Shimeji Mushroom
Perfectly cooked salmon with a very satisfying and delicious taste. This is my favorite appetizer dish here.
Some of their robata -style food were the following:
Negima (Top) - Chicken and Green Onions
The taste was a bit salty but dipping it in it's sauce makes it awesome. Ebi (Mid) - Tiger Prawn with Tarragon Butter I just love how butter and prawns taste oh so good. Asupara (Bottom) - Grilled Asparagus. Tasted just like a normal asparagus but the sauce makes it an A-class dish.
ENTREE:
Yasai Tempura - Vegetable Tempura
An interesting yet satisfying vegetable tempura. It has carrots, sweet potato, beans, onions, and other various vegetables. A guilt-free way to enjoy a tempura.
Ebi Jalapeno - Popcorn Shrimp Tempura with Jalapeno The tempura shrimp inside the sushi tasted pretty good. I love the level of spiciness that it bring. Spicy Tuna Roll - Spicy Tuna Scallion and Sesame Oil Another spicy sushi but this time it's tuna and sesame oil.
MAIN COURSE:
Ingen Itame - Sauteed Green Beans with Garlic Sauce
Love this simple yet flavorful dish.
Yakiniku - Short Ribs in Asian Marinade
My favorite dish in the Menu. The ribs are properly marinated and cooked very well plus the meat was very tender.
Mixed Cha-han - Fried rice with Egg, Chicken, and Prawn
A rather chinese-style fried rice which tasted a little bland for me.
DESSERTS:
Apple Banana Harumaki - Mango, Apple, and Bananas Fritter with Vanilla Ice cream & Chocolate Sauce.
I love this dessert. It tasted like an apple pie but 10 times better.
A choice of homemade ice cream & sorbet - Either Vanilla, Chocolate, Coconut, Lime, Lychee, or Mandarin.
The best way to end the meal is by having this homemade ice cream. I chose Mandarin and it was great.
You guys should check out Katana Dubai's Summer Menu. After having the entire meal, I can say that the price is pretty decent. The food was delicious and the service of the staff is beyond wonderful. I hope to come back soon and try out their other menu which is slightly more expensive than this one but hey they have matcha for desserts. :D
