Settling in the street of Jalan Pisang, The Lab SG is one of the must go to cafes here in Singapore. It has a concept of an experimental cafe which will literally surprise you with the creative invention and playful presentation of their dishes. This location of the place is quite hidden and it's easy to miss this place but take note of an alley with people eating along the streets and you'd realise that you just found it. One key thing to note about this place is that it's a certified Halal Cafe. I heard that this place is actually inspired by the TV Show Breaking Bad. The decors of the place give you an eerie feeling. It somehow transports you to an underground lab with metallic brass sewage pipes, jars of juices hanging from the ceiling, plus if you're lucky you can even see some drinks filled with that liquid nitrogen smoke. Was a bit too dark inside, so we decided to dine outside instead? The outside seating is an alternative way to enjoy the place. It gives you that feeling of dining on the streets with a fan to cool you. Noticed that their menu was quite interesting to read. It had a pretty decent selection and intriguing dishes to try out. Also, the menu makes it easy for you to decide since it has some legends to suggest for their recommendations. We were already starving at that time since it's already 3pm and we didn't have lunch yet so we decided to stick with the stars( these are the highly recommended dishes here). BURGER STACK (SGD 17)- 6oz hand-patted beefy patty with portobello mushroom glued together with some melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese and topped off with the Lab's Blue Cheese Aioli. WOW!!! Now that's how you make a burger. This monster dish is just the perfect comfort food for a hungry stomach. The use of fresh and good quality meat, vegetables, and cheese makes it satisfying and worth the money. PASSATA MUSSELS & SHRIMP (SGD 16) - Tomato based sauce made with garlic mixed with fusilli pasta, mussels, and shrimps. What I love about their pasta is the fact that you get to choose the pasta that you want. They also have three different choices for the base with each base having different toppings to choose from. It tasted a bit spicy but not too much and the pasta was al dente though there was nothing special in the sauce. It tasted below average for me. It also lacked in terms of presentation. SALMON and THAI SHRIMP BAO(SGD 9 for 2) - perfectly steamed bun filled with your choice of toppings. I find the salmon Bao good. It had a good sauce that goes well with the smoked salmon. However, I was kinda disappointed with the Thai Shrimp because it didn't have a real shrimp inside. The most exciting and playful presentations for me goes to their drinks. We had the following which was great in terms of taste and presentation. HEISENBERG (SGD 7) - A citrus based soda with mint leaves; served with Blue Curacao syrup in a syringe. This drink is not alcoholic. It may look like it is but it's not. The Blue Curacao syrup is used to control the sweetness of the drink, I end up putting everything in it. :'D AFFOGATO (SGD 5) - Doppio Espresso in a syringe, served with vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Love Letters. Love the cool presentation of this coffee drink. The espresso was contained in a syringe and the vanilla Ice cream tasted nice. Never thought they call those chocolate love letters, though. In my hometown, we just know it by the brand stick-o. :'D We enjoyed dining here at The Lab SG. This fun themed cafe can compete well with the growing hipster cafes around Singapore. What I can say is they can improve better in terms of the presentation and taste of some of their main dishes. Also, the service is kinda slow that's worth checking. But will definitely be back here to try other food. :'D MENU:Cost per Person: Approximately 18 SGD Rating: (3.5/5) Recommended Dish: HEISENBERGER (BURGER) and HEISENBERG SPARKLER LOCATION: 1 Jalan Pisang, #01-01, 199069
